ERDF co-financed projects

Funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is an important source of financial support that we make use of. Within it we have already implemented projects of great significance to us and continue to implement new ones.

Research project No. 1.2.1.1/16/A/003

Programme: Operational Programme “Growth and Employment”, specific objective 1.2.1 “To increase private sector investment in R&D”, measure 1.2.1.4 “Support for the development of new products and technologies”, within the framework of competence centres.

Project title: “Establishment of the Mechanical Engineering Competence Centre”, study No. 1.9 “Development of a two-level automated veneer lay-up machine”.

Project objective: to develop a technology for the production of innovative composite plywood products using various wood and non-wood materials with different adhesion properties.

Project No. 1.2.1.4/18/A/024

Programme: Operational Programme “Growth and Employment”, specific objective 1.2.1 “To increase private sector investment in R&D”, measure 1.2.1.4 “Support for the introduction of new products into production”, second round.

Project title: “Acquisition of an experimental two-level automated veneer and composite material lay-up line to increase the competitiveness of specific plywood product manufacturing”.

Project objective: to implement a plywood mill project for the efficient and sustainable production of specific birch plywood and composite plywood through the development and acquisition of an experimental two-level automated veneer and composite material lay-up line.

• 31.07.2019: a contract (contract value EUR 9 million) was concluded with Raute Corporation, VAT No. FI01490726, address: Rautetie 2, FI-15550 Nastola, Finland, for the manufacture of plywood production equipment.
• In early 2020, design of the technological process was planned to begin in accordance with project No. 3.1.1.5/19/A/043 “Construction of production premises for the manufacture of specific plywood products with a two-level automated veneer and composite material plywood line”.
• 31.07.2020: due to COVID-19, implementation of the projects was extended by no less than 6 months or until the COVID-19 pandemic normalises worldwide.

Project No. 3.1.1.5/19/A/043

Programme: Operational Programme “Growth and Employment”, specific objective 3.1.1 “To promote the establishment and development of SMEs, especially in manufacturing and RIS3 priority sectors”, measure 3.1.1.5 “Support for investments in the construction or reconstruction of production premises and infrastructure”.

Project title: “Construction of production premises for the manufacture of specific plywood products with a two-level automated veneer and composite material plywood line”.

Project objective: to build a new production building (building classification code 1251) in Krustpils municipality with a total area of 18,728.4 m² for the installation of an experimental two-level automated veneer and composite material lay-up line to manufacture new specific plywood products.

• 30.04.2019: an open-tender procurement procedure was launched: “Construction of SIA AmberBirch production premises, development of the construction design, author supervision” (procurement ID No. 2019/01).
• The application deadline was extended to 20 February 2020, 17:00; answers to tenderers’ questions were provided by 14.02.2020.
• 04.03.2020: the procurement committee named SIA “Jēkabpils PMK” the winner of the open tender.
• 30.06.2020: site preparation works began – clearing of vegetation to allow an accurate topographic survey of the land plot.
• 30.09.2020: due to COVID-19, implementation of the projects was extended by 6 months.
• 31.12.2020: vegetation clearing and the topographic survey were completed. Work began on the master plan.

ALTUM parallel (mezzanine) loan programme

Another important financial instrument for us is the parallel (mezzanine) loan programme in cooperation with ALTUM, granted as regional aid under Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 of 17.06.2014, thereby partially co-financing the project’s investment costs.

Support for developing the company’s digital skills

AmberBirch, SIA has received support for improving employees’ digital skills within the project “Development of digital skills for the development of new products and technologies in Latvian companies” (contract No. 2.3.1.2.i.0/1/24/I/CFLA/002) implemented by the Latvian Digital Accelerator.

The objective of the project is to promote the competitiveness of Latvian companies by developing employees’ digital, automation and innovation skills.

Within the project, companies are offered training in various formats – short-cycle training programmes, professional development training in cooperation with internationally recognised higher education institutions, and online training on international education platforms. Conferences and information events are also organised, and support is provided for implementing digital transformation and developing new products and services.

The project strengthens companies’ ability to use digital technologies in business processes, to develop digital governance, automation, robotisation and innovation, and promotes export development and sustainable business.

Private 5G solution trial project in cooperation with LMT

In cooperation with LMT, the company is running a private 5G solution trial (test-before-invest) project: “Modifiable and autonomous LMT private 5G network for indoor and outdoor areas with customised connectivity options”.

The trial period is three months (04.02.2026–04.05.2026), during which the company can verify that the solution meets its needs and decide on investing in its further development.

The service is provided by the European Digital Innovation Hub. The trial project is financed by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility.
